Youth exchange programs have become widely accepted on the secondary school level as more and more school administrators realize how exchange programs can help prepare American students for an interconnected world by breaking down cultural barriers and fostering mutual understanding. While exchange students attempt to understand other people and their cultures and make life-long associations, they impart knowledge to their classmates about themselves and about the culture they represent. This direct connection with a peer from another country offers a learning experience that can inspire students to explore beyond our borders in a way that is unmatched by any textbook, map, or computer.

The key to the success of an exchange student program lies in matching qualified students with suitable families in a school willing to make a contribution to international awareness and understanding at the grassroots level. Exchange students, with the aid of responsible school officials, can stimulate resident students to question and compare other political, social, and economic systems. Accordingly, we encourage schools to view Global Insights students as an invaluable intercultural resource and we urge schools to utilize our student in that role whenever possible (in classes such as Geography, Social Studies, History, Language Courses, etc.).
